COSMETIC TATTOO / PERMANENT MAKEUP

Enhance Your Beauty with PMU and Cosmetic Tattoo Techniques

Permanent makeup (PMU), cosmetic tattooing, and body arts cover a wide range of procedures, including eyebrow, lip, eyeliner, scalp, areola and nipple, freckles, and other body art tattoos. Each requires careful preparation and aftercare to ensure optimal results and minimize potential risks. Below are essential pretreatment and aftercare guidelines for a successful experience.

Pre-Treatment Guidelines:

  • Avoid Skin Treatments: Do not undergo skin treatments such as microneedling, microdermabrasion, or laser treatments for at least one month before your PMU session. These can increase skin sensitivity and affect pigment retention.
  • Avoid Vitamin E and Certain Medications: Avoid consuming foods or medications that contain vitamin E, aspirin, or blood thinners in the days leading up to the procedure, as they may increase the risk of bleeding and impact pigment absorption.
  • Avoid Hair Removal Treatments: Refrain from waxing, threading, or laser hair removal for at least one to two weeks before your appointment. These treatments can irritate the skin. Also, avoid Botox injections near the treatment area, as they may interfere with pigment retention.
  • Avoid Alcohol and Other Substances: For at least 48 hours before the procedure, avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin, vitamin E, and ibuprofen, as they can thin the blood and make your skin more sensitive, potentially affecting the pigment’s absorption.
  • Postpone if Your Skin is Sunburned: If your skin is sunburned, wait until it has fully healed before undergoing cosmetic tattooing, as sunburn can irritate the skin and affect the procedure.
  • Schedule Around Menstruation: As pain sensitivity may increase during menstruation, try to schedule the procedure outside of this time to minimize discomfort.
  • Clean the Area on the Day of Treatment: On the day of your appointment, thoroughly clean the area to be treated (whether it’s your eyebrows, lips, or eyeliner) and avoid applying makeup or skincare products.
  • Check for Allergies: If you have concerns about potential allergic reactions, ask your technician for a patch test beforehand to test the pigment on a small area of your skin.
  • Ensure Sterilization: Confirm that your technician uses a new, sterile needle and follows proper hygiene and disinfection practices to prevent infections.

Aftercare Guidelines:

  • Keep the Treated Area Clean: Gently cleanse the area with a mild, unscented soap and avoid rubbing or picking at the skin. Use clean cotton pads or a soft cloth to pat the area dry.
  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Keep the treated area out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds during the healing process. Sun exposure can fade the pigment and cause irritation.
  • Avoid Sweating or Water Submersion: Avoid excessive sweating, swimming, or submerging the treated area in water (e.g., hot tubs or saunas) for at least a week to prevent infection and fading.
  • Apply Aftercare Ointment: Use the recommended aftercare ointment or cream provided by your technician to keep the area moisturized and aid in healing.
  • Avoid Makeup and Skincare Products: Do not apply makeup, creams, or skincare products on or near the treated area for at least 7–10 days, as this may irritate the skin or cause infection.
  • Avoid Picking or Scratching: It’s natural for the treated area to scab slightly during healing. Do not pick, scratch, or peel the scabs, as this can lead to uneven pigment results or infection.
  • Allow for Healing Time: Full healing may take 4 to 6 weeks. During this time, avoid touching the treated area unnecessarily, and follow all aftercare instructions provided by your technician.
  • Schedule a Touch-Up: A follow-up session is often necessary to perfect the results. Schedule a touch-up appointment if needed to maintain long-lasting and vibrant pigment.

By following both these pretreatment and aftercare guidelines, you can ensure a smooth and successful PMU or cosmetic tattooing experience with the best possible results.
